Truth with a question mark. - One Shoot



‘Smileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!’ He said so loud that peoples started to look at them. She furrowed her eyebrows and looked very peeved.
‘Do not scream, will you?’ She said in a very piqued tone. He blinked his eyes many times and just realized she didn’t found it very amusing at what he just did.
‘Ahh, Rai. You’re not very pleased that much.’ He said while his eyes focusing at somewhere else.
‘Daichi.’ She said while looking at the same direction as he does. She continued; ‘If you’re talking to a person, at least focus yourself and not let your sight wonders. It’s very rude.’ No responds from Daichi. He stared at someone for a long times and it proved that his expression can be told that he’s falling. She started to get annoyed. Slowly she stood up and walked away without saying anything to Daichi. When he turned around, Rai already left. He quickly looked to the left and right, but she’s not there. He grunted and quickly ran off.
‘RAI!!’ Daichi scream as he ran towards her. Rai stopped walking waited for Daichi to come closer.
‘What’s reason are you screaming my name?’ Rai asked while glaring at Daichi panted from all of the running. She waited until he has his breath back to normal. Daichi smiled.
‘You left the cafe without telling me and left me alone there. You should have told me if you wanted to leave. We can leave right away.’ Daichi asked while wiping his sweaty face with a face tissue that Rai just gave him. After all of the sweats gone, he scrunched the tissue and threw it to the dustbin nearby them.
‘Of course I didn’t tell when you’re busied looking at someone rather than focusing on this date. I did not ask for this date, you’re the one that eager to take me out on this weekend.’ Rai said and she looked very unpleased at Daichi’s ‘easily confused and forgot’ side of his personality. She continued; ‘If you like her that much, why don’t you just confess to her? You have been eyeing on her since the day one.’
‘It’s not like I want to confess to her or something. I don’t even like her as what you think it would be. I just adore her and not more than that really. There’s someone else I’m waiting for.’ Daichi explained then he smiled as he looked at Rai face. He continued; ‘I like it much better to stare at your face. It soothes my feeling every time I’m stress out.’
‘You’re a silly one, do you know that?’ Rai said with a giggle. She stopped giggling when Daichi put his hand on top of her head. Slowly he moved his head closer to her and whispered something.
‘You’re always nice to me, Rai. I felt very grateful and felt the luckiest person in this universe. Thank you, Rai. You made me very happy.’ Daichi surprised. Rai just froze there after Daichi said that has made her in shocked. She has never seen this side of Daichi before and she thought he’s always confused and forgot things.

14th February;
Location: School –


Daichi entered his classroom with a long face. Slowly he walked to his desk, on his way reaching his desk, his female classmate – nearly of them – stopped him from moving further. Daichi didn’t expect thing when the girls admired him and gave him boxes of chocolate on a Valentine’s Day.
Slowly Daichi happily took them from the girls since he doesn’t want to say no to them. After they have left the class and went to restroom, a laughter coming from at the end of the class.
Daichi ignored it and went to his desk and put the boxes of chocolate on top of his desk and the laughter still going on.



‘You could stop laughing now, Tanaka. What makes you laugh in the first place when obviously it’s not even funny?’ Daichi said feeling very irritated.
‘Not really funny, but seeing your action just now makes you funny. You know, you should apply a job as a joker.’ He started to laugh again and this time in a very loud tone.
‘Oh, and you should apply a job as a STUPID IDIOT!!’ Daichi said angrily. Tanaka smirked and he didn’t get offended easily.
‘Seeing you received lots of chocolates, did you even have one from Rai? Since the two of you are very much close.’ Tanaka said while leaning his body resting to the chair, while putting his both legs crossing on his desk and his both arms crossing each others.
‘We’re close but we’re not that close as everyone highly thinks off. It’s not like I’m expecting chocolate from her.’ Daichi said with a sad tone. Slowly he turned his head to the right and stared to the outside view. He sighed lightly. ‘It’s not like I’m hoping this too much.’ He mumbled to himself.




After school –


Everyone went home already while Rai still sitting in her chair writing a note on her notebook.

In the middle of writting, Daichi came to her class. He didn’t knock when he saw Rai’s in a concentrating mode. He smiled when he looked at the girl he adores so much studies very hard.
Slowly Daichi walked towards Rai desk and when he’s already in front of her, he lowering his body as the same height as Rai table. Even so Rai didn’t see Daichi coming, she smiled and aware of Daichi squatted in front of her.



‘Daichi, don’t squatted like that. Please take a seat there, no one is around for you to worrying.’ Rai said gently without even look at Daichi’s face. Daichi slowly stood up and walked to the chair that located just next to her. Then he continued watching her studying.
‘You’re studying hard, Rai.’ Daichi said while staring at Rai. ‘Don’t you want to stop for awhile and turn around facing me? Or even bothers to look at me? I’m here, Rai, sitting just next to you.’ Rai froze for few seconds then she turned around and looked at Daichi.
‘Daichi, you don’t like seeing me studying? It’s very important to me as well, you know that.’ Rai said as she looked at Daichi. Slowly, Daichi handed a hand carrying plastic to Rai.
‘I apologize if I come here disturbing you but I received lots of chocolate today. I came here to share this with you. Here, Rai.’ Daichi said while waiting for Rai to accept the chocolates. She shook her head making Daichi feeling a bit of sadden, slowly he put the hand carrying bag down. ‘You don’t like chocolate, Rai?’ Again, Rai shook her head. ‘Oh okay Rai. What kind of sweet do you like? Tell me and I will buy it for you.
‘Daichi, I don’t want any chocolate or sweet.’ Rai said. Daichi grabbed Rai hands and hold it tightly yet gentle.
‘But why, Rai? If you don’t like them then what? Tell me and I will buy for you.’ Daichi said. Rai slowly took her hands away from Daichi, she moved her right hand towards Daichi left cheeks and touched it for few seconds. She smiled to him.
‘Thank you, Daichi. But I don’t wish of any right now. Thank you.’ Rai said as she slowly turned around and continued studying.
‘You’re back to studying. I do not want to bother you. I should go now.’ Daichi said. Slowly he stood up and left the classroom. Few minutes later after Daichi left, Rai turned around and saw the bag full of chocolates that belonged to Daichi.
‘He forgot his stuff.’ Rai said whispery. Quickly she packed all of her stuff and went off to Daichi while carrying his chocolates with her. When she saw him in front of her, she paced her steps and ran towards him. ‘Daichi!!’ She called his name. Daichi stopped moving when he heard Rai voice calling his name and it’s came from behind. He turned around and there Rai running towards him. ‘Daichi, you forgot these.’ Rai handed the chocolates to Daichi.
‘I forgot all about these.’ Daichi said causally. Slowly he took the hand carrying bag from Rai with a smile. ‘Thank you, Rai.’
‘Daichi you forgetful person.’ Rai said.
‘Do you want them?’ Daichi asked even so he has asked her already.
‘Thank you, Daichi but I don’t want too.’ Rai replied.
‘Seeing you’re here, are you going back to your class?’ Daichi asked.
‘No, I don’t have too. I’m going to head home directly.’
‘Can I come, Rai?’ Daichi asked while following Rai from behind. Rai stopped moving as she turned her head around.
‘Daichi, our houses lived in separate direction. You cannot come with me, Daichi.’ Rai said then she turned back around. Daichi pouted.
‘But I want to go to Rai’s place.’ Daichi said as he grabbed Rai’s hand and acted like five years old little child.
‘Daichi, what possibly you wanted to see? There’s nothing to hide really.’ Rai explained while trying to take her hand away from Daichi grasped, but she failed to do so. Daichi slowly walked closer to Rai as he grabbed her and pulled her closer to him and eventually he hugged her tight.
‘I know you didn’t really, but I just wanted to spend times with Rai.’ Daichi whispered to Rai’s ear. Rai cheeks started to become red.

18th February;
Location: School –


Recess arrived and everyone cheered in joy like they have won a battle in a war. Everyone was relieved that it’s recess time. One by one left their desk and headed to the canteen. And this included Daichi himself.
Slowly Daichi stood from his desk and headed to the door after he scrunched a little piece of paper he received earlier in his locker. Daichi doesn’t look pleased when he received the little piece of paper and even after he read it.
Tanaka who was sitting at his desk at the back of the class smirked when he saw Daichi behaviour oddly taken place. And he chuckled to himself.



‘I guess you don’t like the idea when other girl beside Rai falls for you.’ Tanaka mumbled to himself. Then slowly he stood up and left the classroom heading off to somewhere while he tucked his both hands into his pants pocket.




Location: School rooftop –


Daichi slowly walked up the stairs that will lead him to the school rooftop. When he reached the rooftop floor, slowly he opened the door and the first thing that he saw is a girl from the class next door.
Slowly the girl turned around and when she saw Daichi, she smiled and blushed as she looked at Daichi.



‘Daichi, I...’ Before she could finish her sentence, Daichi interrupted her.
‘I apologize, Kimiko. I can’t accept your feelings. But I am very grateful that someone has this kind of feelings toward me. Thank you so much.’ Daichi said with a smiled. Kimiko aware of it from the starts but she denies it. Slowly tears came out from her eyes, flowing down her cheeks.
‘This is why I like you, Daichi. I can’t turn back myself every time you smile.’ Kimiko said stuttering while she wiped her tears. Slowly Daichi came closer to Kimiko, he moved his hand towards her head and patted her head.




They never knew someone was watching them. It was Rai, she saw everything. That instant she ran back down to her classroom.
Rai has never thought that the day for Daichi to have feelings for other girl has come. By nature she ran from the scene and she never knew it would makes her have very unpleasant feelings and a bit of saddens.




Few minutes ago;
Not long after Daichi left, Tanaka left the classroom and headed to somewhere else. Care freely he walked to Rai’s classroom. When he reached there, he knocked on the classroom door gently. One of Rai’s classmate approached Tanaka and Tanaka threw a smile when her classmate approached him.


‘Hey, Shun.’ Tanaka spoke.
‘Oh, it’s you Tanaka. Who are you looking for?’ He asked. Tanaka pointed at Rai. Slowly Shun turned around his head around and looked at the direction at where Tanaka’s pointed his finger at. ‘Rai?’ He asked. Tanaka smiled and nodded. Then that second, he ran towards Rai and told him Tanaka wanted to see her. Rai looked at Tanaka and he waved once at Rai. Rai slowly stood up and walked towards Tanaka.
‘Is anything wrong, Tanaka?’ Rai asked with a smile.
‘I came just wanted to tell you. Daichi went to the rooftop. I do not know what he’s doing there.’ Tanaka said. Then slowly he walked away. But he stopped when Rai called his name out.
‘Tanaka.’ Rai called Tanaka’s name. Slowly he turned his head around looking at Rai. ‘Why are you telling me this?’ He smiled.
‘Of course, you’re the only person that boy has eyes on. I’m telling you this because you two are very close with each others.’ He said then he continued moving forward. Rai sighed lightly after Tanaka has left.




That moment, Rai left her classroom and went to the rooftop. Slowly she walked up the stairs and when she’s getting closer, she heard voices came from the rooftop.
As she reached the rooftop and about to open the door, she heard a girl voice – slowly she opened the door a little bit gap and peeked through it. She saw not only a girl, but Daichi as well.



‘This is why I like you, Daichi. I can’t turn back myself every time you smile.’ Kimiko said stuttering while she wiped her tears. Rai saw Daichi slowly walked closer to Kimiko and he patted her head gently. Rai couldn’t take it anymore; quickly she left the place and ran back to her classroom. Daichi heard footsteps running down the stairs. He has the feelings it’s belonging to Rai. Quickly he ran off and left Kimiko behind. When he stepped out from the rooftop, Rai has left his sight already. He continued running and hoping he’ll stumble upon Rai. Kimiko was in shock that Daichi just left her like that. ‘I guess, he never meant to be with me.’ She said while wiping the last tears then she smiled knowing there will be a bright hope.




Daichi went to Rai classroom and she’s not there. When Shun saw Daichi in front of their classroom, he approached Daichi.
Shun asked Daichi if he’s looking for Rai and when Daichi said yes, Shun told him that Tanaka came not long ago to see Rai.
Daichi was in shocked very much at what he heard from Shun. After he thanking Tanaka, he ran to his classroom but he stopped in the middle of the corridor when he saw Tanaka crossing his arms around while leaning his back to the wall next to their classroom door. He smirked when he saw Daichi came in a rush.



‘I presume you came back to see me, yes?’ Tanaka asked smirking.
‘You!!’ Daichi shouted angrily. He paced his steps approaching Tanaka. ‘What did you said at Rai!!?’
‘I say nothing. Why are you even stress in this? It’s not like you two are going out, are you?’ Tanaka said calmly.
‘This is none of your business, Tanaka!!’ Daichi shouted.
‘Of course it was none of my business, I was just telling Rai this and that.’ Tanaka said with laughter. Just when Daichi about to say something, he froze where from behind a voice calling his name out.
‘Daichi?’ Rai spoke. Slowly Daichi turned around and saw Rai stood there looking straight at him. Quickly he ran towards her. Tanaka about to say something when Daichi started to acts like five years old little child in front of Rai. Tanaka sighed heavily and shook his head at the same time and he couldn’t believe his eyes at what he just saw.
‘You’re useless.’ Tanaka said then he entered the classroom.
‘Rai, Rai... I don’t want you to misunderstand of something.’ Daichi said to Rai. Rai smiled.
‘It’s alright, Daichi. I am happy for you.’ Rai said with a smile.
‘No you don’t Rai. I don’t have anything to do with Kimiko.’ Daichi said with tears then he continued; ‘Don’t leave me.’ He hugged Rai tightly.
‘Silly Daichi, I’m not going anywhere.’ Rai hugged Daichi back.
‘Then you believe me that I only have you in my life, right?’ Daichi said. Rai smiled while rubbing his head.
‘Of course, Daichi. Of course I am.’ Rai said. Tanaka, who’s inside the classroom sitting on his desk, saw everything. He just sighed then he turned his head to the other side and stared to the outside view.
‘Some people, I couldn’t just understand very well – especially the both of you – how undeniable.’ Tanaka mumbled to himself.
